New Zealand-based Wētā Workshop may be best known as a special effects company, with their digital creations and props appearing in films like The Lord of the Rings and King Kong. Yet the company has also recently expanded into the collectibles market, creating a series of high-end statues featuring characters from the world of comic books, video games, film and television.
Games Workshop is just one the many brands Wētā has partnered with, unveiling a new Warhammer 40K statue that’s now available for pre-order. Based on the popular character Lieutenant Titus, the main protagonist in the upcoming Space Marine 2 video game, the 1:6 scale figure is the first in a series of four planned Warhammer 40K statues.
So just what exactly can we expect to see with this new figure? Below we break out all the details.
STATUE SPECS
As a 1:6 scale figure, the new Lieutenant Titus statue stands at whopping 24 inches in height, with a 16-inch base. For comparison, that makes it about 15x bigger than you standard Space Marine miniature.
Titus himself stands on top of a freshly slain Tyranid Hormagaunt and the Space Marine helmet includes LED light-up functionality.
It’s worth noting that there are actually two editions of the figure: the standard “Battleline” version (which includes a helmeted and helmetless head option) and a Limited Edition variant that includes everything in the Battleline version along with an alternate chainsword teeth, a thunder hammer weapon and an extra display stand for the accessories. Notably, there were only 1,300 statues made of the Limited Edition variant.
The statue is designed by longtime Wētā artist Daniel Cockersell, who actually started his career as a sculptor at Games Workshop before moving to Wētā and taking on the role of Team Leader of the Sculpting Department.
The specs themselves are as follows:
- 24 inches tall and 16 inches wide
- Made from high-quality polystone
- Equipped with swappable Astartes Chainsword and Thunder Hammer
- Includes two weapon and helmet stands
- Includes blood and gore add-on attachment
- Also features a swappable LED light-up helmet
Who is Lieutenant Titus?
Lieutenant Titus is a legendary member of the Ultramarines who has faithfully served the Imperium of Man for over 150 years and participated in a number of major battles, including the defense of the Forge World Graia against both a massive Ork invasion and a large-scale assault from the forces of Chaos
At one point, Titus served as a Captain within the infamous Space Marine Chapter, but after several entanglements with the Inquisition has been demoted to the rank of lieutenant within the 2nd Company of the Ultramarines.
Most famously, Titus is the main protagonist of the Space Marine and Space Marine II video games, the blood-soaked third-person shooters which were created by Relic Entertainment and Saber Interactive, respectively.
HOW MUCH IS THE NEW WETA STATUE?
The Wētā name and the high-quality nature of these new Warhammer 40K statues means that they aren’t cheap. The standard Battleline edition cost will set you back $1,199 USD, and the limited edition variant comes in at a $1,399 USD. That doesn’t include the additional shipping and handling costs, that will likely run you another $150 – $200 USD.
Currently, the statues are available to pre-order (with a 25% non-refundable deposit) from the Wētā Workshop store, with an estimated delivery sometime in the second quarter of 2024 (so likely in the late spring or summer).
WHAT OTHER WARHAMMER 40K Statues WILL BE RELEASED?
In addition to the new Titus statue, Wētā and Games Workshop have also announced that four more 1:6 scale statues are in the works (although as of this writing, an exact release date is still unknown).
The next statue will be of Abaddon the Despoiler, the dreaded Warmaster of the Chaos Space Marines. This will be followed by a statue of Saint Celestine, the elite, psychic warrior from the Sisters of Battle. A fourth figure is also in the works, although it still hasn’t been announced who it will be modelled on.
