New Space Marine Captain in Terminator Armour Arrives

To lead Space Marines into battle in the grimdark future of the 41st millennium takes an iron will, a ruthless heart and a keen mind. Of course, having a set of kick ass power armor also helps.

Fortunately, fans of the Adeptus Astartes will find all of the above in the new Space Marines Captain in Terminator Armour, an upcoming model for Warhammer 40K 10th edition which is available now for pre-order from Games Workshop. Below we break out all the details.

What’s Included With the Space Marines Captain in Terminator Armour?

The new kit includes 25 separate components and a 50mm base, making it a bit bigger than your standard Space Marines model. Notably, there is a fair bit of customization, with the option to choose from either a power fist or ornate relic sword in the left hand. In the right hand, you can also choose between a storm bolter or three different varieties of combi-weapon: flamer, melta or plasma.

The kit also includes a few solid cosmetic options, including two different bare heads: one with a rebreather and one with a bionic eye. There’s also an optional tabard.

It’s a solid outing that works well if you’re running an existing Ultramarines army, although with a few modifications and a little paint work you could use your new Captain in pretty much any Space Marines Chapter. It’s also worth noting that this is a brand new model and not the Captain in Terminator Armour that appeared in the Warhammer 40K Leviathan Box Set.

What is the Datasheet and Point Value for the Terminator Captain?

The datasheet for new Terminator Captain is available in the Codex: Space Marine for 10th Edition and on Page 13-14 of Games Workshop’s free Adeptus Astartes rules PDF).

The model includes the following key abilities:

  • Oath of the Moment: At the start of your Command phase, select one unit from your opponent’s army. Until the start of your next Command phase, each time a model from your army with this ability makes an attack that targets that enemy unit, you can re-roll the hit roll and you can re-roll the Wounds roll.
  • Rites of Battle: Once per battle round, one unit from your army with this ability can be targeted by a Stratagem for OCP, even if another unit from your army has already been targeted by that Stratagem this phase.
  • The Imperium’s Sword: You can re-roll Charge rolls made for this model’s unit.

According to the most recent Munitorium Field Manual (which breaks out the point value of all Warhammer 40K 10th edition models), a Captain in Terminator Armour comes in at 95 points, which is pricey but well worth it considering the one-two combo he packs in terms of both range and melee weaponry.

What is A Space Marine Captain?

In the lore of Warhammer 40K, Space Marine Captains are officers responsible for commanding one of the ten companies in a standard Adeptus Astartes Chapter. Typically, they are highly experienced veterans who have served their Chapter for numerous years and distinguished themselves in battle. Notably, in addition to their rank, Space Marines Captains may also have honorifics associated with their duties, such as Master of Recruits (who handles internal training), Master of the Fleet (who helps oversee deployments and orbital attacks) and Master of the Rites (who oversees the rituals of the Chapter). Certain Chapters may also have variants of these titles.

In addition to their combat prowess, Space Marine Captains also possess a deep understanding of strategy and tactics and are able to almost instantly understand the nature of a battlefield and position troops in the most advantageous way possible.

In terms of their weaponry, most Captains are equipped with ancient relic weapons that hold powerful symbolic meaning among their Chapter. Beyond this they tend to use the same standard power armor and weapons of typical Adeptus Astartes troops.

Final Thoughts

If you’re a Space Marines player with a decent sized army, this new Captain is a must-have. The details are great and it’s surprising that they released a completely new model, rather than simply repackaging the version that was included with the Leviathan box set.
