New Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol: Tristaen’s Gilded Blades (First Look)

It’s been a glorious few months for the golden legions of the Adeptus Custodes, with Games Workshop releasing a variety of new products, including the new Warhammer 40K 10th edition Adeptus Custodes Codex and their new Auric Champions Battleforce.

Now, GW has also unveiled a new Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol that offers yet another way for players to dig into the Ten Thousand. The new box set is slated for release on April 27th, 2024 and is available now for pre-order from Games Workshop.

So does this new Combat Patrol live up to the Holy Light of Terra? Below, we dig into all the details.

What’s Included in the New Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol?

The new 2024 Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol is known as “Tristaen’s Gilded Blades” and consists of the following 14 models:

Notably, all of these models have appeared in the past, although this is the first time they’ve been collectively featured in a single box set.

How much Is the New Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol?

The new Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol retails for $160 USD, if you order it directly from the Games Workshop website. This is comparable in price to what we saw with the 2023 “Guardians of the Throne” Combat Patrol and other similar box sets, such as the recent “Morgrim’s Butchas” Ork Combat Patrol released in April 2024.

Below are the estimated prices if you were to buy these units individually:

This works out to around $290 USD, so you’d be saving $130 if you were to purchase the Combat Patrol as a set. As always, prices may vary if you buy the set from your local game store or from Amazon (where discounts and sales may allow you to pick him up for a bit cheaper, with most third-party retailers offering at least 10-15% discounts).

When is the new Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol Coming Out?

The new 2024 Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol is scheduled for release on April 27th, 2024. It is, however, available for pre-order now from Games Workshop.

Local game stores and online retailers will likely have copies shortly after the initial release date, although it’s not yet clear if the new set it a Games Workshop exclusive or it it will be sold via Amazon and other online retailers (which was the case with previous Combat Patrols).

How is this different than the Previous Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol?

Tristaen’s Gilded Blades actually marks the second Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol to be released by Games Workshop for Warhammer 40K 10th edition. The first was released in late 2023 and was known as “Guardians of the Throne” with the complete datasheets and rules released for free online.

Unfortunately, that isn’t the case for this new 2024 Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol. In fact, the rules and datasheets for it are not yet available on the official Warhammer website and can only be found in the official 10th edition Adeptus Custodes Codex that’s released in April 2024. That being said, they should be released on both the Warhammer App and the GW website sometime in the near future.

The previous 2023 Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol included the following 20 models:

  • 1x Shield Captain
  • 1x Vexilius Praetor
  • 3x Custodian Guard
  • 3x Vertus Praetors (one of which can be build as a Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike)
  • 10x Sisters of Silence Prosecutors (which can also be built as Vigilators or Witchseekers)
  • 2x Burning of Prospero transfer sheets (which include insignia for the Talons of the Emperor)

Final Thoughts

It’s a fantastic time to be a fan of the Ten Thousand, with a new codex, new battleforce and now a new Combat Patrol hitting shelves. It’s a great option if you’re new to Warhammer 40K or looking to augment your existing Custodes army (especially given the significant cost savings for the models included).

If you’re interested in suiting up with Tristaen’s Gilded Blades you pre-order your copy now from Games Workshop.
