Warhammer 40K Artist John Blanche Gets New Biography

The legendary Battle for Macragge remains a key part of Warhammer 40K, not only because of its significance to Space Marine and Tyranid lore, but also because two decades ago it spawned a beloved introductory box set for the 4th edition of the game.
Now, the epic struggle is reborn in the form of a new Battle for Macragge Box Set that’s available for a short period of time as a made-to-order product from Games Workshop. Below we break out everything you need to know.
What’s included in the NEW BATTLE FOR MACRAGGE BOX?
The new Macragge box is really meant to be a recreation of the fourth edition introductory set that was released back in 2004. The miniatures and rules, however, have been updated for 10th edition and include:
- 1x Lieutenant Varras (Imperial Pilot)
- 10x Space Marines (forming a Tactical Squad)
- 6x Genestealers
- 8x Spore Mines
- 10x Termagants
- 17x Pieces of Terrain:
- 1x MKIII fusion core
- 1x Thunderhawk locator beacon
- 4x Magna power field projectors
- 5x Pieces of crashed Imperial lander wreckage
- 6x Tyranid infestation nodes
All miniatures are single-option and push-fit, as they were when first launched back in 2004.
WHAT IS THE BATTLE OF MACRAGGE?
The Battle of Macragge is a pivotal event in the Warhammer 40K universe, particularly within the lore of the Ultramarines. As the name suggest, the battle took place on Macragge, the Ultramarines’ homeworld, following a massive Tyranid invasion led by Hive Fleet Behemoth.
The Ultramarines, led by their Chapter Master Marneus Calgar, mounted a heroic defense against the alien hordes. Despite their tactical prowess and valiant fighting, however, the Ultramarines were overwhelmed by the sheer number of Tyranids.
The turning point came when the Ultramarines launched a desperate counter-attack, focusing on the Tyranid bio-ships in orbit, which eventually led to the destruction of the Tyranid fleet, securing a pyrrhic victory for the defenders.
The Battle of Macragge became a legendary testament to the bravery and resilience of the Ultramarines, solidifying their reputation across the Imperium. It also marked the first major encounter with the Tyranids, alerting the Imperium to this new, horrifying threat.
When is the MACRAGGE BOX SET AVAILABLE?
This item is available on a Made to Order basis until 8am GMT on Tuesday, the 2nd of January 2024. As a Made to Order product, the item will be sent out 180 days of an order being placed. After that it won’t be available (although it’s possible that Games Workshop may release a standard version if it sells well).
