Now, another unique faction within the Dark Angels is getting time in the spotlight, with GW announcing new 10th edition rules for Ravenwing, the elite Adeptus Astartes mobile units that combine speed, firepower and total bad assery.

So just what can players expect to find in these new Dark Angels Ravenwing rules? We rev up our assault bikes and race to find out.

What Are the new Dark Angels Ravenwing Rules for 10th Edition?

Games Workshop recently published a sneak peak of the new Ravenwing rules on their website, which will also be featured in the upcoming Codex Supplement: Dark Angels book, scheduled for release shortly. Notably, Ravenwing detachments have appeared in past Warhammer 40K editions before, but this marks their first entry into the 10th edition of the game.

One of the three new Dark Angels detachments that will be coming out in the Codex is known as the Company of Hunters, a group of elite assault bike riders who operate within the Ravenwing. These units combine many of the common attributes of past mobile troops, while also introducing a number of new rules.

The updated rules for these new Ravenwing riders include:

  • Masters of Manoeuvre: Units are eligible to shoot in a turn in which they Advanced or Fell Back, letting troops get into position without having to worry about counterattacks.
  • High-speed Focus. During the opponent’s Shooting phase, one Ravenwing unit that was selected as a target may subtract 1 from the enemy’s Hit roll.
  • Talon Strike: During your Shooting or Fight phase, one Ravenwing Mounted unit that has not been selected to shoot or fight gets to add 1 to Wound rolls on attacks against enemy Mounted or Infantry Characters.

  • Character Keyword: The Ravenwing Command Squad’s Champion gains the CHARACTER keyword, allowing the whole unit to attach to your Outriders or Ravenwing Black Knights.
  • Battleline Keyword: Outriders get the BATTLELINE keyword, offering more strategic potential for these units.
  • Master of Manoeuvre: The point value of any Ravenwing models that start in Strategic Reserves does NOT count towards the combined points limits for your army when being set up on the battlefield. This ability also lets you treat the current battle round as one higher than it actually is.

Who are the Dark Angels Ravenwings?

The Ravenwing are the 2nd Company of the Dark Angels and are a highly specialized unit that excels in mobile warfare and consists of elite riders and pilots. Operating almost entirely on vehicles, they utilize a combination of Space Marine assault bikes, land speeders and atmospheric assault fighters.

Ravenwing tactics primarily consist of hit-and-run attacks, striking quickly and fading into the distance. Within their ranks are also specialized Black Knights, elite warriors who wield powerful Corvus Hammers and style themselves after the old monster-hunting knights from their chapters founding planet of Caliban.

Ravenwing units often work closely with Deathwing Terminators, with the two forces operating in tandem to deliver a combination of lighting attacks and heavy assaults.

Dark Angels fans are likely going to be fired up to add these new mobile troops to their existing army or using them to build out an entirely new one. The complete 10th edition Ravenwing unit rules will be available soon in the Codex: Supplement Dark Angels available for pre-order soon.
