New Big Mek Ork Model Unveiled for Warhammer 40K

When it comes to Ork technology, bigger is almost always better. That’s why the baddest warriors in any WAAAGH! are undoubtedly the Big Meks. Stomping across the battlefield in their piece-meal power armor, these elite Orks can go toe-to-toe with almost any foe.

Now, these legendary greenskinned gitstompers are coming back to Warhammer 40K with a new Big Mek Ork model that will soon be available for pre-order from Games Workshop. The figure will be part of the upcoming Stompa Boyz Ork Battleforce, with a full datasheet unveiled in the soon-to-be-released Ork Codex for 10th edition.

So just what can fans expect from this amazing new krumpin’ machine? Below, we dakka into all the details.

What’s Included With the Big Mek Ork Model?

Over the past few years, Games Workshop has released a number of different Big Meks, including most recently the Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun. This new model, however, definitely looks like a improvement in terms of design.

It also includes a number of customization options. First, with the right hand, you can choose from one of two melee weapons: a Hydraulic Klaw or a Whirring Drilla. For the left hand, you can choose from either a Kustom Mega-Blasta or a Portable Traktor Blasta – the latter of which is a completely new weapon for Warhammer 40K.

Notably, the model also includes two optional heads: one featuring a bionic eye and the other a more standard Ork head. The kit will also include a number of additional accessories and transfers.

What is the Datasheet and Point Value for the New Big Mek?

The datasheet for the new Ork Big Dek will first be made available in the upcoming Ork Codex for 10th edition, but stats for similar Big Mek models can be found on Page 15-20 of Games Workshop’s free Ork rules PDF.

We do know that the new Big Mek model will include the following key abilities and weaponry:

  • Shokk-Boosta: You can re-roll Advance rolls made for this model’s unit. In addition, each time this model’s unit makes a Normal, Advance or Fall Back move, until that move is finished, models in that unit can move horizontally through models and terrain features (but cannot finish a move on top of another model or its base).
  • Traktor Blasta: A powerful anti-aircraft weapon that packs a serious punch and has an impressive 36″ range.

According to the most recent Munitorium Field Manual (which breaks out the point value of all Warhammer 40K 10th edition models), a Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun comes in at 75 points, so this model will likely have a similar value. (By contrast, a Big Mek with Kustom Force Field comes in at 55 points while a Big Mek in Mega Armour comes in at 85 points).

What is An Ork Big Mek?

In the lore of Warhammer 40K, Ork Big Meks are known as the pinnacle of greenskin ingenuity and mechanical prowess. These warriors all come from the ranks of Mekboyz, the greenskin grunts who construct and maintain a vast array of war machines and gadgets. Big Meks, however, stand apart from your typical Mekboy due to their size, battle prowess and ability to produce battlefield technology that is as lethal as it is unpredictable.

Notably, a Big Mek who becomes the leader of a full-scale WAAAGH! is known as a “Mek Boss,” and are some of the most feared Ork warriors in existence. In the recent novel Da Big Dakka, for example, the legendary Warboss known as “Da Meklord” is almost unsurpassed in both engineering skill and sheer combat ability. Big Meks and Mek Bosses also are heavily featured in a number of other Black Library Ork Books.

How much Is the new Ork Big Mek?

Games Workshop has not yet confirmed the price, but the new Ork Big Mek will likely have an MSRP of around $60 USD if you purchase it directly from the Games Workshop website. As noted previously, it will first be released in the upcoming Stompa Boyz Ork Battleforce before it’s made available as a standalone product.

As always, prices may vary if you buy the model from your local game store or from Amazon (where discounts and sales may allow you to pick him up for a bit cheaper, with most third-party retailers offering at least 10-15% discounts).

When Will the New Ork Big Mek Be Released?

Games Workshop has not yet confirmed the release date, but it will likely be in the spring of 2024 to coincide with the launch of the the upcoming Ork Codex.

Notably, in recent months Games Workshop has been having difficulties meeting pre-order demand, with some third-party game stores being unable to get their hands on product, so you may want to check with your local retailer to see if and when the new Big Mek is available in your area.

Final Thoughts

It’s amazing to see Games Workshop giving Ork fans a ton of new models and new options for army building. With the Ork Codex coming soon and a new Battleforce on the horizon, it looks like there’ll be plenty more WAAAGH! in the days ahead.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the new Big Mek model in the days ahead and will update this page with more information as it’s available.

If you’re looking for a little more mobile firepower for your Space Marines army, then that Ballistus Dreadnought is likely the perfect options. If you already have one from the Leviathan, you’ll probably be set (especially given the point cost), but. You can pre-order yours now from the Games Workshop website.
