While most Warhammer fans use their models to play in tournaments or to take on friends in a friendly game, there’s also a thriving community of designers, sculptors and artists who create jaw-dropping displays and dioramas featuring their armies.
Many of these creations often appear in the Warhammer Armies on Parade, an annual award organized by Games Workshop that recognizes the best-of-the-best from fans around the world.
Recently, GW announced that the 2024 Armies on Parade competition is now underway, with new categories and new ways to enter. Below, we break out all the details.
What is Warhammer Armies on Parade?
Warhammer Armies on Parade is an annual competition hosted by Games Workshop that invites fans from around the world to showcase their painted Warhammer armies in visually unique ways. Typically this involves using models with terrain and dioramas (although this isn’t a requirement), with winners receiving awards as well as free Warhammer merchandise.
The event has been held annually since 2010 and is open to participants of all skill levels from around the world. Notably, it’s similar to the Golden Demon Award in that entries are judged by a panel of Games Workshop employees and feature several key categories.
What are the 2024 Armies on Parade Categories?
According to Games Workshop, the 2024 Armies on Parade awards will have four new categories:
- Individual: Users in this category can paint and submit any army from any Games Workshop system on a blank battle board or table, with terrain being entirely option.
- Team: This category is for groups of two or more individuals who are working together to submit an entry. Winners are also judged based on the army and terrain is optional.
- Display Board: This focuses on entries that feature terrain and dioramas. Notably, submissions in this category can also be entered into the Individual or Team categories.
- Youngbloods: This category is for younger artists between the ages of 13 and 16 years old. Entries can also be submitted into the Team category (as long as at least one member of the team is 17 or older).
When and where will the Armies on Parade Winners be announced?
The exact dates are still to be confirmed, but Warhammer stores will be showcasing local entries sometime in September 2024. An online Armies on Parade awards show will take place later in October (possibly at the same time as the SPIEL Essen convention which runs from October 3rd to 6th, 2024).
How do you enter the 2024 Armies on Parade Contest?
Anyone can enter the the Armies on Paradise content, but there are a few things to note. First, painted miniatures must be exclusively from Games Workshop. Second, displays must fit within a board with dimensions of 22×30 inches. Finally, conversions and scratch-built entries are allowed as long as they are in scale and set thematically within one of the Warhammer settings (excluding Middle-earth).
Games workshop has indicated that full terms and conditions will be provided in April 2024 and you can read more on the Warhammer Community blog.
Who Won the Armies on Parade Contest in 2023?

The Silver medal Warhammer 40K went to veteran painter Maciej Kulesza for his display of Crimson First Space Marines.
