Warhammer 40K Ork Codex for 10th Edition (First Look)

Over the past few months, Games Workshop has been delivering a heaping dose of WAAAGH!, with a heavy focus on Warhammer 40K’s Orks. In particular, we’ve seen the publication of the new novel Da Big Dakka, the release of a new Big Mek model, a limited edition Ufthak Blawkhawk model and the announcement of the upcoming Stompa Boyz Ork Battleforce.

All of it of course is leading up to a new Warhammer 40K Ork Codex for 10th edition, which will be released on April 27th, 2024 and is now available for pre-order from Games Workshop.

So just what’s in this new tome and how many teef is it gonna cost ya to loot? Below, we dakka up all the deets.

What’s included in The New Ork Codex for 10th edition?

The new 10th edition Ork Codex is a 152-page supplement that includes:

  • New lore around the Orks, including recent developments, and the history of past and present WAAAGHS!
  • New interior artwork with update layout and design (notably, this includes new cover art)
  • New datasheets (including covering new units such as the Big Mek and the Stompa Boyz)
An Ork Warboss leading the Stompa Boz Battleforce across an alien landscape.

Notably, much of the official Ork 10th edition content has already been published online by Games Workshop in the Ork Army Rules PDF as well as the Warhammer 40K App, but the Codex will really crystalize the rules.

What’s Changed in the 10th edition Ork Codex?

While the 9th edition Ork Codex is several years old now, it has seen some dramatic changes with the 10th edition Ork rules that were first revealed by GW in May 2023. This includes:

  • Orks can charge and advance in the same turn, with increased strength and attacks in melee, plus an invulnerable save for durability.
  • The Waaagh! ability now benefits every model in the army and is activated at the start of a battle round, enhancing both offence and defence.

  • The Waaagh! Tribe Detachment rule grants extra hits on melee weapons, making units like Boyz and Hunta Rigs more lethal.
  • Strategic changes and unit highlights emphasize Orks’ flexibility and strength in both melee combat and tactical maneuvers.

How much is the New 10th Edition Orks Codex?

Codex Supplement: Orks will retail for $60 USD if you purchase it directly from Games Workshop, which is a higher price point that we’ve seen for other recent 10th edition Codexes (such as Space Marines and Dark Angels). Notably, the Collector’s Edition version will retail for $100 USD.

As always, prices may vary if you buy the book from your local game store or from Amazon (where discounts and sales may allow you to pick him up for a bit cheaper.
